Houston Dynamo to host Sporting Kansas City in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16

The Houston Dynamo will host defending champions Sporting Kansas City in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium, it was determined today via a geographically weighted draw by U.S. Soccer. The match will take place on Wednesday, June 29 at 6 p.m. CT. Tickets will go on sale at a later date.


The winner of the matchup will advance to host the winner of FC Dallas vs. Colorado Rapids in the quarterfinals. The winner out of the Plains Region will face the winner of the West Region (Portland Timbers vs. LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle Sounders FC) in the semifinals. The draw for semifinal and final hosting scenarios will take place on July 21.


The Dynamo advanced to the Round of 16 with a 4-0 win over San Antonio FC, while Sporting Kansas City defeated with a 2-1 road win over Minnesota United after extra time. The two teams met in Kansas City in the 2015 quarterfinals, with SKC recording a 3-1 win at home. The Dynamo have won the only MLS meeting between the teams this season, a 2-0 win at BBVA Compass Stadium on May 7. Houston has a 9-2-0 mark all-time at home in U.S. Open Cup play.
