Despite latest road setback, Houston Dynamo "don't think we're in a funk"

CARSON, Calif. -- The Houston Dynamo came into Friday’s tilt with the LA Galaxy looking not only for a result, but also to get their first win on the road this season.

Neither happened though, as Steven Gerrard’s 66th-minute goal was enough to get LA the 1-0 victory at StubHub Center.

Dynamo interim head coach Wade Barrett said after the game that he knew that if his squad had one lapse in concentration, the Galaxy would make them pay.

“This is a team that you can’t really have a lack of concentration, for any play, over the course of a night,” Barrett told reporters. “I thought there were a couple of plays where we lacked the concentration, and we got punished for one of them.”

Despite this, Barrett credited the Dynamo’s resolve after giving up the goal, especially at StubHub Center.

“I did think that the team showed a lot of fight to try and get that goal back,” said Barrett. “A lot of teams have a hard time coming here and playing. I thought we still looked dangerous going into the end of the game, so I’m pleased with that.”

Forward Giles Barnes led the Houston attack with six shots, but couldn’t find the net, and he knows that if they’re going to get that elusive first win on the road, that has to change.

“It was a fairly even game, we had our chances,” Barnes said. “I felt we deserved to come out with more than no points, but we battled well.”

When asked about the road woes on the season, Barrett defended the Dynamo, saying that they don’t feel out of form.

“I don’t think we’re in a funk,” said Barrett. “I don’t think that any kind of results that happened at the beginning of the year are affecting the group right now. I’ve been in charge since the Vancouver game, and I think we’ve got some great results on the road, so I don’t think there’s any kind of funk.”

Barnes knows that if they stick to their plan, they’ll get three points on the road soon.

“Just keep on doing exactly what we’ve been doing, and bury those chances,” Barnes said. “Take those chances when they come in, the points will come through.”
