TEAM NOTES:

  • The Dynamo used their seventh different starting lineup in seven games thus far on the season.
  • After starting in a 4-3-3 formation for the first six games of the season, the Dynamo opened the game in a 4-4-2 diamond formation for the first time this season.
  • The Dynamo kept their first clean sheet of the season. Houston shut out its opponents nine times in 2016.
  • As part of the MLS “Every Save Makes A Difference” program for nationally-televised games on UniMás, MLS Works, Allstate and Univision team up to donate $500 to the charity of a team’s choice for each save made by their goalkeeper in the game. Therefore, Dynamo goalkeeper Joe Willis earned $1,000 today for La Unidad Soccer Centro with his two saves.
  • The Dynamo have now outscored their opponents 13-5 at BBVA Compass Stadium this season.
  • The Dynamo scored first for the fourth time this season. The Dynamo improved to 3-0-1 this season when scoring the first goal of the game.
  • The Dynamo led at halftime for the sixth time in seven games this season. Houston improved to 4-1-1 this season when leading at intermission.
  • The Dynamo scored the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute and led for the remaining 81 minutes. Houston has now led for 333 of 450 minutes played at BBVA Compass Stadium this season.
  • The Dynamo outshot San Jose, 13-9. It marked the fourth time this season that the Dynamo have recorded more shots than their opponent this season, and Houston is now 3-0-1 in those games.
  • The Dynamo lost the time of possession contest, holding the ball for 41.8 percent of the game compared to San Jose’s 58.2 percent. The Dynamo are now 4-1-0 in games where they had the lesser of possession.


INDIVIDUAL PLAYER NOTES:

  • MF Alex earned the penalty kick which FW Erick Torres converted in the ninth minute. While it doesn’t count as an assist, it does mark the fifth goal this season that Alex has helped create.
  • Alex made his 45th start overall for the Dynamo and the 93rd of his MLS career.
  • MF Eric Alexander registered his first assist of the season and his first with the Dynamo when his corner kick found FW Alberth Elis in the 72nd minute to put the Dynamo up 2-0.
  • Alexander made his sixth start of the season, his ninth as a member of the Dynamo and the 136th of his career today.
  • DF DaMarcus Beasley wore the captain’s armband for the first time this season this afternoon. Beasley was the captain in 15 games last season.
  • Beasley made his 154th career start and 66th as a Dynamo today.
  • MF Juan David Cabezas made his second start with the Dynamo this afternoon and his first since March 18 at Portland. It was also his first start at BBVA Compass Stadium.
  • MF Ricardo Clark felt tightness in his left adductor during training on Friday morning and was held out of today’s game for precautionary reasons. It was the first time this season that Clark was not in the Starting XI.
  • FW Alberth Elis scored his third goal of the season and scored for the second consecutive game when he redirected a corner kick into the back of the net in the 72nd minute.
  • Elis received a yellow card in the 34th minute for a dangerous challenge on San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham. It was Elis’ second caution of the season.
  • Elis made sixth start of the season and his third in a row today. Elis has played in all seven games this season.
  • MF Boniek García made his third consecutive start and his first in the midfield today.
  • García made his 126th career appearance in MLS competition today.
  • DF Kevin Garcia made his first career start in Major League Soccer competition today, a week after making his MLS debut as a substitute vs. Minnesota United on April 15.
  • DF Adolfo Machado started his seventh consecutive game. He and Alex are the only two players to have started all seven games this season.
  • After Alex was substituted off in the 85th minute, Machado is now the only player on the Dynamo roster to have played all 560 minutes this season.
  • FW Erick Torres scored his seventh goal of the season when he converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute.
  • Torres equaled his second-highest single-season goal total in his career with his goal this afternoon. Torres also scored seven goals in 2013 after joining Chivas USA in July of that year.
  • Torres now has six goals in five games at BBVA Compass Stadium this season.
  • Torres made his 14th start for the Dynamo and his 58th overall in MLS play.
  • GK Joe Willis earned his 10th career clean sheet and his first of the season.
  • Willis finished the game with two saves. Willis picked up a yellow card for time wasting in the 32nd minute. It was Willis’ first caution of the season.
  • Willis made his 51st career start and his second in a row this season. Willis started 24 games a year ago for the Dynamo.
