Australia had a 2-0 lead slip out of their hands and finished with a 2-2 draw against Germany on Saturday.

The Matildas ran out to a surprise lead behind Sam Kerr in just the 6th minute, then doubled the lead with a goal from Caitlin Foord in the 45th minute. Germany responded quickly, cutting the lead in half in first half stoppage time with a superb goal from Sara Daebritz.

Australia continued to press in the second half to extend their lead, but Germany pushed right back and eventually equalized with Saskia Bartusiak in the 88th minute after a scramble in the box.

Dash goalkeeper Lydia Williams made several big saves for Australia in a busy night, facing 23 shots from the Germans—nine of them on target.

With the result, both Canada and the United States are guaranteed to advance to the knockout rounds. Australia (0-1-1, 1 point) will look to advance on Tuesday in a match against Zimbabwe (0-2-0, 0 points), while Germany (1-0-1, 4 points) will face Canada (2-0-0, 6 points).
