Dash defeat Baylor 4-0 in scrimmage

The Houston Dash defeated Baylor University 4-0 this evening in a scrimmage at Betty Lou Mays Field. This scrimmage was scheduled in preparation for Houston’s return to NWSL play next Thursday at BBVA Compass Stadium as they host the Washington Spirit.


Caity Heap scored the first goal of the game in the fifth minute. Kealia Ohai dribbled into the box and found Chioma Ubogagu near the penalty spot. A Baylor defender cleared the ball before the forward could shoot, but Heap collected the ball at the top of the box and her shot to the near post beat Baylor goalkeeper Sara Martinson.


Ten minutes later, Ubogagu’s shot led to the second goal of the game. Her effort from the edge of the box was deflected by a defender and redirected inside the far post.


The final goal of the first period came two minutes later when Ubogagu’s pass found Heap near the penalty spot and her shot beat the goalkeeper at the far post.


The final goal of the game came in the 76th minute. Ohai dribbled to the end line and her low cross split two defenders before the ball found Tessa Florio near the penalty spot, and she beat the goalkeeper at the near post.


Houston returns to BBVA Compass Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 18 to host the Washington Spirit while seven team members continue their quest for Olympic medals in Rio.. The national team players are expected to take part in the Sept. 3 game against Alex Morgan and the Orlando Pride.
