Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek García called up for Honduras World Cup qualifiers

Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek García was called up to the Honduras national team the start of the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying, Honduras head coach Jorge Luis Pinto announced today.


Honduras will host Panama on November 11 (2:30 p.m. CT, beIN SPORTS) and Trinidad & Tobago on November 15 (4 p.m. CT, beIN Sports 4/beIN SPORTS CONNECT) to kick off the final round of regional qualifying. García, 32, has made six appearances for Los Catrachos in qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and recently took part in a short training camp in Honduras.


Six CONCACAF teams advanced to the final round of qualifying, commonly referred to as "The Hexagonal" or "The Hex." Each team plays a round-robin 10-game schedule, with the top three teams clinching an automatic berth to Russia 2018. The fourth-place finisher will advance to a playoff against Asia's fifth-place finisher, while the bottom two teams are eliminated.


García had one of his best years for the Dynamo in 2016, setting career highs in appearances (31), minutes (2,249), and assists (9). The Tegucigalpa, Honduras, native has 109 caps for his national team.
