The Houston Dynamo made a move for the future when they announced on Wednesday they have signed 19-year-old goalkeeper Erich Marscheider.

Some players naturally gravitate towards the limelight. Houston Dynamo defender Andre Hainault is not one of them.

In his three years in Houston, Hainault has become one of the Dynamo’s best and most consistent defenders. While he’s dominated on the field, however, the same can’t be said of the attention paid him by the media. Last December, MLSsoccer.com voted the Canadian international the second-most underrated player in the league behind Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

And that’s just fine by Hainault.

The Houston Dynamo have signed goalkeeper Erich Marscheider, it was announced today. Marscheider cleared the waiver process after Major League Soccer signed the promising goalkeeper to a contract. The Dynamo then put in a player request to sign Marscheider. Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Teams often feel the need to tinker in the offseason. They look for the final piece or pieces to the puzzle that will push them over the top.

The Houston Dynamo weren’t one of those teams this winter. That fact is reinforced by the return of several familiar faces to the Dynamo’s defense for the 2012 season.

The Houston Dynamo cruised to a 9-0 win over the Dynamo Academy Monday morning at the Houston Amateur Sports Park. Cam Weaver led the way with two goals and seven other players added a goal apiece for the Dynamo in the scrimmage win.

Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear’s lineup featured ten returning players in the starting lineup, including Brian Ching, who wore the Dynamo game jersey for the first time since being reacquired from the Montreal Impact on Thursday.

The Houston Dynamo rolled to a 4-0 win over Southern Methodist University in a scrimmage on a wet Saturday at Houston Amateur Sports Park’s turf practice field. Brian Ownby, Will Bruin, Emerson Sato and Colin Rolfe each scored as the Dynamo continued their preseason with a win over the Mustangs.

HOUSTON – “It’s very honorable, but he’s here and we have to look at the season ahead to be fair and put that behind us.”

That was the reaction from Houston Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear when asked about what it took to get Brian Ching back, and it shows the mindset of the club which is to get ready for the upcoming season.

After months of negotiations and a week of constant chatter, Brian Ching finally got the news he had been waiting for Thursday morning.

Houston Dynamo defender Kofi Sarkodie has been named to the 23-player roster for the upcoming U.S. Under-23 men’s national team training camp. The camp will last for 10 days in Frisco, Texas, and will culminate with a friendly against Mexico’s U-23 national team on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at FC Dallas Stadium.

In addition to the Mexico match, the U.S. U-23s will scrimmage FC Dallas on Wednesday, Feb 22, and the San Antonio Scorpions on Friday, Feb. 24.
