Houston Dash captain and forward Rachel Daly will join English club West Ham United FC on loan, both clubs announced today. The England international is set to play in the FA Women’s Super League through December of 2020.
“I’m over the moon to be back in England. I’ve always wanted to play in the Barclays WSL and what a year to be a part of it”, said Daly. “I’m excited to be playing for West Ham as I think it’s a top club with massive potential. Being closer to my family is something that I’ll cherish over the next few months after being away from them for eight years – it has been difficult. Having them be able to watch me live week-in and week-out will be special.”
Daly joins the women’s side of West Ham United FC after capping her successful summer run with Houston as the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup MVP. The forward was a crucial piece of the club’s first league title in club history, scoring three goals and two assists to earn Golden Boot honors.
As she embarks on her first time playing outside of the National Women’s Soccer League, Daly is set to continue to build on her stellar performance in the Challenge Cup in her home country and the FA Women’s Super League. Daly will play forward under West Ham United FC Head Coach Matt Beard.
At the conclusion of the loan, Daly is set to return to Houston after signing a new three-year contract with the Dash earlier this week.
The Dash are set to return to competition in September as part of an 18-game fall series. The league’s nine teams were divided into three three-team pods based on geography, and the Dash will play four matches against the North Carolina Courage and Orlando Pride.
