The Houston Dynamo opened play in the 2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League with a 0-0 tie on the road against Panamanian champion San Francisco F.C. Tuesday night at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City.

San Francisco F.C. moves into first place in Group B with two points from two games. The Dynamo and Pumas UNAM are second with one point each. Luis Angel Firpo, which plays Pumas tomorrow night, has yet to play.

The scoreless tie was the second time the Dynamo have earned a point in an international road game in five tries (0-3-2). The other came earlier this year against CSD Municipal. Houston will continue Champions League play with a road game against Pumas UNAM in Mexico City next Tuesday, September 30. The Dynamo will host San Francisco F.C. October 7.

Goalkeeper Pat Onstad made seven saves, including six in the first half, to earn his 10th overall shutout of the season in 27 games and run his season save total to 99. It was the Dynamo’s 13th shutout of the year in 35 games in all competitions.

Houston started only five regulars but still put out an experienced lineup. Brian Mullan, Brian Ching, and Dwayne De Rosario all came off the bench. The Dynamo are now 14-7-14 in all competitions this year.
