Dynamo Daily - May 6, 2010

After months of anticipation, Major League Soccer announced today that Manchester United will be the opponent in the 2010 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.  The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT at Reliant Stadium here in Houston.

Local politicians, including Houston Mayor Annise Parker and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, showed up for the press conference to show their support for the All-Star Game announcement.

For the third time this season, the Houston Dynamo followed up a win with a loss, falling to FC Dallas 1-0 at Robertson Stadium on Wednesday. The Dynamo’s inconsistent play is troubling players, as is the fact that they were unable to take advantage of playing the last 19 minutes of the game with a man advantage. Not only was the win the first for Dallas on the season, it was the first ever win for FC Dallas in Houston.

Although it is likely Brian Ching will return to the Dynamo lineup for this weekend’s match against Chivas USA, the injury bug struck Houston again. Defender Eddie Robinson strained his right knee and will miss this weekend’s match. Pat Onstad, meanwhile, will surpass Preki as the oldest player to play in an MLS game if he starts on Saturday - thanks to the Climbing the Ladder blog for pointing that out.

Luis Ángel Landín sat down for a chat with HoustonDynamo.com about the transition to MLS and being a father in a feature that appeared in Wednesday's Gameday Magazine. Landín was also featured in the latest edition of Hablando de la MLS.

With the World Cup a little more than one month away, the New York Times reports that folks in England still do not fully respect American soccer.

Jen Chang projects a 23-man U.S. World Cup roster and believes Brian Ching should be one of three forwards included on the team.

This is the type of story you probably don't see every day. During a Croatian league match between Mladost FC and Hrvatski Sokola, Goran Tunjic received a yellow card for diving. Upon further review, the booking was unwarranted.
