The Dynamo defeated the Laredo Heat 2-1 yesterday in front of 6,111 fans at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Brad Davis and Dominic Oduro provided the goals for the Dynamo in their first of two exhibition matches during the World Cup break. Head coach Dominic Kinnear was pleased with the venue and the support the fans showed. The Ryan-Sanders Shootout was the first soccer game played at Whataburger Field, typically a baseball stadium for the AA Corpus Christi Hooks.
In addition to Anthony Obodai, the Dynamo will welcome two more trialists that will play in the Dynamo Charities Cup June 19 against Aguila.
Mark Berman reports that Oliver Luck has recommended Dynamo COO Chris Canetti to replace him as team president. Canetti was recently named to the Sports Business Journal’s 40 under 40 list.
Residents of Pasadena, Texas, are excited for the World Cup and have proven to be avid soccer fans through their previous support of the Dynamo. Fans in the Valley are also ready to show their support for the U.S. and Mexican national teams.
A reception was held at City Hall yesterday to announce that Houston holds the top spot in the race to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018 or 2022. Oliver Luck emphasized the Dynamo’s diverse roster and fan base as a reason why Houston would make an excellent host city.
