Dynamo goalkeeper Tyler Deric, the first home-grown player ever signed from the Dynamo Academy, took some time to answer some questions for HoustonDynamo.com to let Dynamo fans get to know him a little better.
HD: What do you like to do in your free time?
TD: I’m a big movie
guy. With my day off yesterday, I
watched four movies. I also like to hang out with friends and am currently building a deck.
HD: What type of movies do you like?
TD: All kinds. Yesterday I watched Alvin and the
Chipmunks, The Waterboy, Green Zone, and I saw Inception.
HD: What is your favorite thing about Houston?
TD: I’d have to say
just being here with my friends and family. They are always supporting me, and that is probably my
favorite part about Houston.
HD: Is there anybody you looked up to as a kid?
TD: Yeah, I’ve had a
lot of father figures in my life. But family-wise, of course my mother. She was always great. And sports-wise, I have always been a fan of [German goalkeeper] Oliver Kahn and [Spanish goalkeeper] Iker Casillas. I have watched all of their YouTube videos.
HD: What type of things have you learned working with [Dynamo goalkeeper] Pat Onstad?
TD: He has been a great
teacher. He points stuff out to me
when I am working. He gives me
advice and asks me questions. He
makes me look at different scenarios in a different perspective. I really enjoy him being here.
HD: Did you ever want to do anything different when you were a kid, or was it always about being a professional soccer player?
TD: I always wanted
to be a taxi driver growing up. I
thought it would the coolest job to be a taxi driver – just driving around and
meeting a
lot of different people. I thought that would be the coolest thing, being a taxi driver.
