Fresh off quite possibly their most disappointing performance of the year, the Houston Dynamo returned to practice this week trying once again to salvage their season.

A week after defeating the Chicago Fire for their first MLS victory in almost three months, the Dynamo found themselves down a goal and a man within 10 minutes against the Colorado Rapids last Saturday en route to 3-0 road loss which stunted any momentum the team seemed to be building.

“It is just the way the season’s going, and we have to try and get some momentum back,” said Geoff Cameron. “It was a disappointing result, especially with us thinking we could go down there and get three points."

Added veteran Brian Ching: “It is disheartening. We didn’t come out particularly well or sharp, and the first goal we get caught sleeping and it is disappointing. We need to demand more and hold ourselves accountable.”

Ching left the match early with an injury, compounding the troubles for a Houston side that has already been dealt its fair share of injuries in 2010. Ching worked on the side at practice on Monday and hopes to be available for the team’s next match on Sunday against San Jose.

“My calf started tightening up where it hurt to walk, and at halftime I wanted to fight it out, but the smartest thing was to step off the field,” noted Ching. “It was a little sore yesterday, but it felt better today. Hopefully it will be better by the weekend.”

While Houston head coach Dominic Kinnear thought that forward Cam Weaver came on and played well in Ching’s absence, there seemed to be very few other positives from the Rapids match.

“At halftime Dom [Kinnear] came in[to the locker room] and gave us a lift,” said goalkeeper Pat Onstad. “We performed well [in the second half], but there is not much to take from that game.”
