The men's college soccer season kicked off last week, with most of the 11 Dynamo Academy players in action this fall. The 2010 season marks the first group of college seniors who spent time in the Dynamo Academy, so college soccer is especially worth watching to see which players might be drafted or even signed prior to the draft in the 2010-11 offseason.
Below is a report on Dynamo Academy players this weekend, sorted by year of eligibility:
Seniors
Daniel Roberts, MF/FW, UNC-Wilmington (Fort Bend Clements) Dynamo bio | UNCW bio
Roberts recovered from a preseason groin injury to play 90 minutes in UNC-Wilmington's 1-0 win against Binghamton on 9/3 in opening game of WVU Classic. In Sunday's game against host West Virginia before a crowd of more than 1,000, Roberts scored a game-tying free kick in 79th minute by firing a shot to the top left corner, but the 23rd-ranked Seahawks fell 3-2 in overtime. Roberts, again playing forward, fired six shots with two on goal in the match. UNC-Wilmington plays at Campbell on Wednesday.
Josue Soto, MF, SMU (PrepaTec, Mexico) Dynamo bio | SMU bio
Soto started and played 71 minutes last Wednesday in SMU's 3-2 overtime win over Missouri State in Dallas. In the SMU Invitational over the weekend, Soto started and assisted on two of the three Mustang goals in a 3-1 win vs. Lipscomb on Saturday. Soto started and played 52 minutes as SMU cruised to a 3-0 win over Seattle on Monday.
Juniors
Alex Dixon, FW, North Carolina (Humble Atascocita) Dynamo bio | UNC bio
Dixon started, played 60 minutes, and fired three shots in No. 4 UNC's 3-0 loss to No. 1 Akron at home on Friday. The Tar Heels recovered with a 3-1 win over Seton Hall on Sunday, and Dixon set up Enzo Martinez's second goal with a neat one-two. Dixon fired five of UNC's 28 shots while playing 56 minutes.
Clayton Holz, MF, Stanford (St. John's) Dynamo bio | Stanford bio
Holz came off the bench in No. 13 Stanford's 2-1 overtime loss at Vermont last Wednesday and did not play in a 2-1 loss at No. 10 Harvard on Sunday.
Matt Kirby, MF, Denver (Beaumont Msgr. Kelly) Dynamo bio | DU bio
Kirby did not start but played 43 minutes as a substitute, picking up a yellow card, in Denver's 1-0 loss to Cal Poly on Friday. On Sunday, Kirby played 35 minutes in two separate stints as a substitute in Denver's 3-2 win over Houston Baptist. The Pioneers will face Portland and Georgetown in a tournament at New Mexico this weekend.
Pana Vasquez, FW, SMU (Cy Falls) Dynamo bio | SMU bio
Vasquez did not appear in SMU wins over Missouri State on Sept. 1 and Lipscomb on Sept. 4, but he played 19 minutes as a substitute in the Mustangs' 3-0 win over Seattle on Monday.
Sophomores
Matt Boullt, DF, Tulsa (Fort Bend Clements) Dynamo bio | Tulsa bio
Tulsa played in the SMU Invitational this weekend, opening with a 3-1 win over Seattle on Saturday. Boullt started on the back line and had two shots on goal in the match. On Monday, Tulsa downed Lipscomb 4-1, with Boullt again starting on defense and getting multiple chances on goal.
Freshmen
Sebastien Ibeagha, DF/MF, Duke (Fort Bend Hightower) Dynamo bio | Duke bio
Started and played 31 minutes in No. 11 Duke's 0-0 tie with No. 20 Louisville on Friday, leaving the game with a leg injury. Despite going down to 10 men, Duke held on for the tie behind 15 saves from goalkeeper James Belshaw. Ibeagha did not play in Duke's 4-1 win over Sacramento State on Sunday.
C.J. Odenigwe, DF, North Carolina (Fort Bend Travis) Dynamo bio | UNC bio
In his first weekend at the collegiate level, Odenigwe played 54 combined minutes as a second-half substitute in both of North Carolina's games, a loss to Akron and a win over Seton Hall, entering at the back. UNC did not allow a goal with Odenigwe in the game.
Jonny Torres, MF, Wake Forest (Humble Atascocita) Dynamo bio | Wake bio
Did not appear in either match as No. 3 Wake Forest tied Seton Hall 2-2 on Friday and lost to No. 1 Akron 2-0 on Sunday in a home tournament.
Pat Wall, GK, Notre Dame (Strake Jesuit) Dynamo bio | ND bio
Did not play and remains eligible to redshirt this season. No. 18 Notre Dame lost to No. 5 UCLA 1-0 on Friday and tied Cal 0-0 on Sunday.

Houston Baptist University
Opened season with dramatic 1-0 overtime win at Air Force on Friday, with Tanner Fyfe (Austin Lake Travis) scoring the game-winning goal from a Mateo Jimenez (Spring Woods) assist. HBU lost 3-2 at Denver on Sunday.
