The Houston Dynamo hope to build on their recent positive performances on Sunday night while seeking their first-ever victory against the New England Revolution at Robertson Stadium.
“In the last month, we’ve put some good performances together and have been punished in the back for some mistakes,” said Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad. “For the most part, if we keep performing like that, the results will come.”
Houston will face New England without forward Brian Ching, who got good news this week when he was told that he did not tear his MCL or fracture his kneecap, as both injuries would have ended his season prematurely. But with Ching injured, the target forward duties will fall on the shoulders of Cam Weaver.
“When there is an opportunity to play, I am going to be ready,” Weaver said. “Hopefully I can take my chances when they come. We have three games left, and I am going to try to contribute as much as I can ... and hopefully get a couple of goals.”
Coach Dominic Kinnear expects a typical New England and Houston affair, with both teams squaring off in a physical battle.
“They have some big bodies to fight for the first ball,” Kinnear said. “They also take every opportunity to throw things in the box and test your back four.”
The Dynamo are also in search of their first-ever win over New England at Robertson Stadium, where the Revs are 3-0-1 all-time.
“That’s some extra incentive, certainly,” noted defender Andrew Hainault. “We are playing for pride and our fans. Hopefully we can come out there and work hard, as we have a lot of things we need to work on. If we can go out, work hard and play with a positive attitude, it would be great to get a win at home for our fans.”
