The Dynamo Academy braved the elements on the road this past weekend and came away with a 2-1-1 record against the Colorado Rush and Colorado Rapids in USSF Developmental Academy play. The U-18s tied the Rush on Saturday 1-1 before falling to the Rapids on Sunday 1-0. The U-16s defeated the Rush 2-0 on Saturday and the Rapids 1-0 on Sunday.

In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Dynamo 18s (2-4-3) dominated play but were unable to finish past the Rush goalkeeper. After a scoreless first half, Chance Bergen put the Dynamo on the board in the 64th minute off a long ball from goalkeeper Graham Wheeler (Katy Taylor). After catching a free kick on his goal line, Wheeler saw Bergen streaking up the field and sent the ball in his direction. Bergen calmly collected the ball, beat a Rush defender, and slotted the ball home to give the Dynamo a 1-0 lead. Although Houston dominated possession, Colorado converted its lone goal-scoring opportunity in the 75th minute to earn a 1-1 draw.

On Sunday, the Dynamo 18s succumbed to the 20-degree temperatures in a losing effort to the Rapids 18s. The game's lone goal came in the 82nd minute, when Rapids forward James Rogers intercepted a pass from Dynamo defender Sebastian Karpen. With Karpen on his heels, Rogers sprinted toward the goal and fired a shot that deflected off Karpen and went past a sprawling Wheeler.

The Dynamo U-16s (5-4) controlled their game against the Colorado Rush on Saturday, dominating an overmatched Rush squad en route to a 2-0 victory. Rush goalkeeper Timothy Tribbett fouled Dynamo forward Lorenzo Salazar (Houston Austin) in the 55th minute, setting up a Branco Ramirez penalty kick which gave the Dynamo a 1-0 lead. Salazar continued his run of good form, picking up a loose ball in the 78th minute, beating multiple Rush defenders and firing a rocket past Tribbett to seal the game for Houston.

In Sunday's matchup of MLS academy clubs, Dynamo U-16s goalkeeper Juan Navarrete (Katy Cinco Ranch) and his backline held strong, pacing the team to its third clean sheet of the season. The lone goal of the match came in the 68th minute. Ramirez played a through ball to Salazar, who took one touch, turned toward the goal, and beat the Rapids' goalkeeper.

Both Dynamo Academy squads return to the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex on Saturday for non-conference matches against Internationals (Cleveland, OH). The U-18s kick off Saturday at 4 p.m., with the U-16s to follow at 6 p.m.
