Dynamo select two in Supplemental Draft

The Houston Dynamo selected goalkeeper Evan Newton and midfielder Sergio Castillo in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft this afternoon. Both players are expected to be invited to the Dynamo’s pre-season training camp in hopes of earning a roster spot.

Newton was selected with the seventh pick in the first round of Tuesday’s draft. He was named first team all-Colonial Athletic Association in 2010 as a senior at Old Dominion University, where he finished as the school’s all-time leader in saves and shutouts. A former member of the U.S. U-17 national team, Newton will turn 23 in April.
