The Dynamo Academy U-16s lost 3-1 to IMG Academy yesterday, in their first match of the USSF Development Academy playoffs. The loss snapped a nine-game unbeaten streak for the Dynamo U-16s.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, Dynamo midfielder Jorge Andrade pulled Houston to within one with a goal just before halftime. Andrade picked up a loose ball outside of the IMG 18-yard box, dribbled past two defenders, and slotted the ball past IMG goalkeeper Marco Velez.

Although the Dynamo came out strong in the second half, they could not get a clear shot off to even the match. IMG sealed the game in the 50th minute after Dynamo goalkeeper Juan Navarrete saved one shot attempt but spilled the ball in front of his net. IMG's Gabriel Nunez darted into the box and finished passed Navarrete to seal the game.

The Dynamo return to action Sunday night against Sporting KC at 6 p.m. CT in a must-win game for Houston. Sporting lost its first match to the LA Galaxy, and a loss to Sporting would eliminate the Dynamo from advancing to Finals Week.

In other Academy news, the Dynamo U-18s tied McLean Youth Soccer (VA) 0-0 in their first match of the USSF Development Academy Showcase. The Showcase is for the 92 teams in the U-16 and U-18 age groups who did not qualify for the playoffs. The 18s return to action Sunday morning at 9 a.m. against the LA Galaxy.
