The Houston Dynamo clinched a return to the MLS Cup Playoffs on Saturday after other results around the league, coupled with the Dynamo’s 2-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Friday night, officially sealed a postseason berth. Houston will play in the postseason for the fifth time in the club’s six-year history; the Dynamo have won two MLS Cup championships (2006, 2007) and played in three conference championship games (2006, 2007, 2009).
Unbeaten in their last five games (3-0-2), the Dynamo are currently tied for eighth place in the overall standings with the Colorado Rapids with 46 points. Houston also remains in contention for an automatic playoff spot from the Eastern Conference, just two points out of first place. With the introduction of a single-game wildcard round Oct. 26-27, the Dynamo are not yet guaranteed a home playoff game. If Houston finishes in the top three in the Eastern Conference, as one of the top two wildcard teams, or wins a wildcard game, the Dynamo will host a playoff game on a date to be announced.

Houston has been led by midfielder Brad Davis, an MVP candidate who is tied for the MLS lead with 15 assists after setting up a goal on Friday night. Forwards Will Bruin and Brian Ching and defender Geoff Cameron are tied for the team lead with five goals each, while goalkeeper Tally Hall posted his sixth shutout of the year against Portland.
