Playoff seeding scenarios: Dynamo edition

As we head into the final weekend of the 2011 MLS regular season, Dynamo fans can be assured of one thing: their favorite team will be playing in the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs. Where and when, though, is still up in the air and will not be decided until the final whistle is blown Sunday night at Robertson Stadium.


With the New York Red Bulls defeating the Philadelphia Union Thursday night, the Dynamo can still finish in first, second, or third in the Eastern Conference, or second, third, or fourth in the wildcard race. Below is what has to happen for any those scenarios to occur. Keep in mind the Dynamo are only guaranteed a home playoff game if they finish in the top three of the Eastern Conference or second in the wild card race.


Dynamo finish first place in the Eastern Conference IF:
Houston Dynamo defeat LA Galaxy AND
Sporting KC loses to D.C. United AND
Columbus Crew lose to or tie Chicago Fire


Dynamo finish second place in the Eastern Conference IF:
Houston Dynamo defeat LA Galaxy AND
Columbus Crew defeat Chicago Fire AND
Sporting KC loses to D.C. United


OR


Houston Dynamo defeat LA Galaxy AND
Sporting KC defeat or tie D.C. United AND
Columbus Crew lose to or tie Chicago Fire


Dynamo finish in third place in the Eastern Conference IF:
Houston Dynamo defeat LA Galaxy AND
Sporting KC defeat or tie D.C. United AND
Columbus Crew defeat Chicago Fire


Dynamo finish second in the wildcard race IF:
Houston Dynamo tie LA Galaxy AND
Sporting KC defeat or tie D.C. United AND
Columbus Crew defeat or tie Chicago Fire AND
Colorado Rapids lose to Vancouver Whitecaps


Dynamo finish third in the wildcard race IF:
Houston Dynamo tie LA Galaxy AND
Colorado Rapids defeat or tie Vancouver Whitecaps


Dynamo finish fourth in the wild card race IF:
Houston Dynamo lose to LA Galaxy
