The Houston Dynamo Academy wrapped up the Winter Showcase today at the Premier Sports Complex in Sarasota, Fla. In their only games against an MLS Academy side, the Dynamo U-18s fell 3-1 to Chivas USA and the Dynamo U-16s fell 5-0. Midfielder Christian Diaz (Cy Falls) scored Houston's lone goal on the day.
The games against Chivas were the third for each club in the past four days. The U-18s got the Showcase off on the right foot with back-to-back victories over Pateadores on Friday and Richmond Kickers on Saturday. Forward Manual Chavez (Cy Springs) was the star of the weekend, scoring three goals for Houston in its first two matches.
After falling to Pateadores 2-0 on Friday, the Dynamo U-16s stormed back on Saturday, defeating Richmond Kickers 2-1. Irvin Ramirez (Alief Elsik) and Louis Thomas (Houston Lamar) provided the goals for Houston. The Dynamo were unable to maintain that momentum into the final match of the Showcase, falling 5-0 to Chivas on Monday.
Both squads will return home and have a week off before returning to Texas league action against Lonestar Soccer Club. The 18s will kick off next Saturday at 4 p.m. with the 16s to follow at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at St. Stephen's Episcopal in Austin, Texas.
