Brad Davis’ left calf does not seem to be very cooperative.
For the second time in 2012, the Houston Dynamo midfielder is dealing with an injury in that region. Davis missed nearly four weeks in April due to an injury to a different calf muscle in his left leg.
However, speaking with the media after missing Thursday’s training, Davis was optimistic about his injury relating to its severity and was still holding out hope for Saturday’s match with the Montreal Impact (7:30 pm CT).

“No, I’m not real worried about it,” Davis said. “I don’t think it’s a major injury. Speaking with the doctor and how it’s responded the last few days we’re thinking it’s going to be tough for me to go Saturday, but I told [head coach Dominic Kinnear] I don’t want to be counted out just yet because it has responded very well the past couple of days.”
With the injury not expected to be as severe and the positive response, Davis, if he is indeed held out Saturday, is hoping to again benefit from some fortuitous scheduling.
While he missed nearly four weeks in April he was only out for two games because of consecutive off weeks. Davis will be afforded the same extra time when MLS takes a break next week for international fixture dates.
“If I miss this Saturday’s game, I see no reason why I won’t be ready and available for the other games,” he said. “If you do look at the timing we are a bit lucky having the break to give it a little extra time and definitely come back 100 percent ready to go and finish out the year.”
Davis’ season has been on an upward climb since June. With 12 assists and a career high seven goals, he has been a major factor in the Dynamo’s playoff push.
But just as he did earlier this season and in the playoffs last season when he missed the MLS Cup final due to injury, Davis is once again pondering the timing of his injury and looking to get back as soon as possible as Houston continue to try and secure passage to the playoffs.
“It’s definitely difficult this time of year to pick up an injury,” said the midfielder. “It’s an important time for us. Yeah, you look at the positive side of it, so hopefully if I miss this weekend, it’s just one game. But still, you don’t like missing a game period.”
