With Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union, the Houston Dynamo became the fourth team in Major League Soccer history to complete a season without losing a regular season home match.
“It’s a team achievement 100 percent," Kinnear said when asked about the accomplishment. "These guys are the ones that play, and play hard. I’m lucky and appreciative of all their efforts. I have a very nice job and I also have the best seat in the house watching these guys play.”
The Dynamo join the LA Galaxy (2011), Real Salt Lake (2010) and San Jose Earthquakes (2005) as the only other teams to accomplish the feat. The 2005 Earthquakes were coached by Dominic Kinnear and featured Brad Davis, Brian Ching and Ricardo Clark.
“We are a team that is a never-say-die team and we kept going and we’re excited," Davis said after the match. "Undefeated at home this year is a great accomplishment and most of all we are in the playoffs, which is huge."
With the win, the Dynamo also extended their home-unbeaten streak in regular season games to 25, dating back to June 2011. That is the longest active streak in Major League Soccer, and four behind Real Salt Lake, who went unbeaten in 29 straight matches from June 6, 2009 to May 14, 2011.
