Dynamo Academy sweeps Dallas Texans in first-place showdown

The Houston Dynamo Academy, presented by Statoil, swept their matches with Dallas Texans on Saturday at the University of Texas - Dallas. The Dynamo U-16s won 3-1 to take over first place in the Frontier Division, while the U-18s won 2-0 to remain in second place behind FC Dallas.


With the potential to take over first place on the line, the Dynamo U-18s and Dallas Texans played a hard-fought first half, with neither team able to get on the scoresheet. Jose Rodriguez broke the deadlock for the Dynamo in the 69th minute, firing a shot past goalkeeper Hunter Harrison. The goal was Rodriguez's fourth of the season. With the Dynamo defense holding firm, Irvin Ramirez put the nail in Dallas' coffin, slotting one into the net in the 85th minute to give the Dynamo a 2-0 victory.


The Dynamo U-18s have now won four in a row and were able to avenge a 1-0 home loss to Dallas Texans on January 19. Houston is 10-3-3 on the season, and although they have the most points in their division (33), they are second to FC Dallas in points per game. FC Dallas has a 2.07 points per game average to the Dynamo's 2.06 points per game average, with FCD having played two fewer games.


In the second match of Saturday's doubleheader, the Dynamo U-16s scored two first half goals to put the host side on their heels. Julis Montano put the Dynamo ahead in the 20th minute and Houston doubled its lead minutes later when Dallas Texans defender Michael Brezovsky inadvertently hit the ball into his own net. Josue Palomino sealed the game in the 48th minute with his fourth goal of the season as the Dynamo defeated Dallas Texans 3-1.


The Dynamo U-16s have won five in a row and and have outscored their opponents 18-6 during that stretch. Houston is 12-3-1 on the season and is tied with Solar Chelsea for first place in the Frontier Division.


In Pre-Academy action, the Dynamo U-13s and U-15s defeated Dallas Texans, while the U-14s lost 1-0. The U-13s won 2-1 with goals from Christian Murillo and JP Nava. The U-15s won 3-1 with Roberto Marquez tallying twice and Jacob Salome adding a third.


All teams will travel to Austin this weekend to take on Lonestar SC. The U-18s will kick off on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the U-16s to follow at 3:30 p.m. The Both teams will travel to Dallas this weekend for matches against Dallas Texans. On Sunday, the U-13s will kick off at 12 p.m., with the U-14s to follow at 2 p.m. and the U-15s to follow at 4 p.m.
