Boniek Garcia named to Honduras roster for upcoming qualifiers

Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia has been called up by the Honduran Football Federation for the club's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Panama.


Honduras manager Luis Fernández Suárez called in 23 players to the squad, including four players from Major League Soccer (San Jose's Víctor Bernárdez, New England's Jerry Bengtson, Seattle's Mario Martínez and Garcia).


Los Catrachos will host Mexico in San Pedro Sula on March 22 before heading to Panama for a match against Los Canaleros on March 26.


Garcia has been a mainstay for the Honduran national team with 79 career appearances and one goal. The 2012 Dynamo Newcomer of the Year started, played 90 minutes and recorded an assist in the squad's 2-1 win over the United States on February 6. Honduras current sits in first place in the overall standings.


The top three teams from the Hexagonal will advance to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with the fourth-place team entering a playoff against the winner of the Oceania region.


Garcia will join Honduras after the Dynamo's March 17 match vs. FC Dallas and will miss Houston's home match against the Vancouver Whitecaps on March 23. The midfielder will return in time for the Dynamo's March 30 home match vs. the San Jose Earthquakes.
