Houston Dynamo midfielder Brian Ownby loaned to Richmond Kickers

The Houston Dynamo announced today that midfielder Brian Ownby has been loaned to the Richmond Kickers of the USL Pro division. The loan is effective immediately and will expire on Sept. 14, at which time Ownby will return to the Dynamo.

Ownby, 22, appeared in seven regular season games and contributed two assists as a rookie in 2012. The assists came in consecutive appearances, including a late equalizer in a 3-3 tie versus Toronto FC on June 20. Ownby also appeared in seven MLS Reserve League Games (five starts), and scored one goal. The midfielder scored a goal and played 90 minutes for the Dynamo Reserves in a 3-1 win over the FC Dallas Reserves on Sunday.

The Glen Allen, Va. native returns to his home state, where he played with the Richmond Strikers Academy and the University of Virginia before he was selected by the Dynamo in the 2012 Supplemental Draft.

Ownby made 72 appearances over four seasons at Virginia, scoring 19 goals and adding 10 assists. He was named second team All-ACC in 2011 and earned all-freshman honors in 2010. The midfielder played for the United States at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, scoring a goal in a group stage match against Cameroon.
