Without three key players due to international duty, Houston’s 2-1 victory over Vancouver pushed them to No.3 in both week 4 power rankings for MLSsoccer.com and Sports Illustrated.
MLSSoccer.com's writers moved Houston up two spots from last week’s rankings. This is what they had to say about the Dynamo:
Even without Brad Davis and Boniek García, Houston looked very smooth and fairly dangerous in possession. They also didn't look nearly as vulnerable to set pieces as they have been, but could very easily have dug themselves a 2-0 hole based purely on counterattacks. A good fightback at home is nice work, but there is still tinkering to be done by Dominic Kinnear.
Sports Illustrated’s Avi Creditor moved the Dynamo up one from last week’s rankings, after they extended their home win streak to 27 regular season games and 33 games in all competitions (includes playoffs and Champions League). Here is Creditor's take on the Dynamo:
The Dynamo's home dominance continued. More impressively, it continued without starters Brad Davis, Oscar Boniek Garcia and Jermaine Taylor, all on international duty. Andrew Driver, Eric Brunner and Warren Creavalle stepped up (it took Creavalle a couple overhit shots to warm up, but still) to deal Vancouver its first loss.
Yahoo Sport’s Zac Wassink moved Houston from its previous No.10 spot up to No.6 in this week’s power rankings. This is what Wassink had to say about Houston’s home dominance:
The best home team in all of North American pro sports plays in MLS. It's hard to imagine the Dynamo losing in Houston; ever.
Meanwhile, Houston’s next opponent, the San Jose Earthquakes, are ranked No.3 by Wassink after their 1-0 win over Seattle. Here is Wassink on the Earthquakes:
And some of you were concerned about Chris Wondolowski and the 'Quakes. They may not win 3-0 every weekend, but they will likely be one of the best teams in the West when all is said and done.
