While the March 23 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps featured a series of firsts for Dynam players, last weekend's win over San Jose featured veteran players doing what they do best.
After three scoreless MLS games, Dynamo forward Will Bruin broke through on Saturday, netting his first goal of the season in the 17th minute. Bruin's goal was his 22nd for the Dynamo in all competitions and puts him in a tie with Stuart Holden for fourth on the all-time Dynamo scoring chart.
Another veteran who added to his career total on Saturday was Brad Davis. With his team leading 1-0 minutes before halftime, Davis lofted a perfectly weighted pass into the Earthquakes penalty box. Striker Giles Barnes beat his man - and goalkeeper Jon Busch - to the ball and headed it into the empty net for the game's final goal. The assist was the 75th regular season assist for Davis as a member of the Dynamo.
With the win, head coach Dominic Kinnear moved into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time regular season wins chart. Kinnear is now seven wins behind former Chicago Fire, NY / NJ MetroStars and Chivas USA head coach Bob Bradley. Kinnear also has the third highest winning percentage among coaches with at least 50 career wins. His .570 winning percentage trails current Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena (.607) and former New York head coach Octavio Zambrano (.587).
In addition to individual accomplishments, the Dynamo won their first three home games of a season for the first time.
The Dynamo will hit the road this weekend, looking for their first road win of the season when they take on the Portland Timbers, Saturday night at JELD-WEN Field. The match can be seen on CSN2.
