Boniek Garcia called up by Honduran national team for upcoming friendlies and World Cup qualifiers

Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia has been named to the roster for the Honduran national team's upcoming friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. Garcia will leave the Dynamo following Sunday's match at Sporting KC and will return following Honduras' World Cup qualfier against the United States on June 18.


Garcia enters this coming camp with 79 career appearances for the Honduran national team. He has featured in each of Honduras' three qualifiers in the Hexagonal group and assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over the United States on February 6.


Los Catrachos will hold their training camp in Tegucigalpa, Honduras beginning on May 26. The team will then head to New York for a friendly against Israel on June 2 before playing World Cup qualifiers at Costa Rica (June 7) and against Jamaica at home (June 11). They will conclude the month with a match against the United States on June 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium.


Honduras is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the final qualifying group with Costa Rica and the United States. The top three teams from the group earn berths to the 2014 World Cup, with the fourth-place team advancing to a one game playoff against the winner of the Oceania region.


Garcia has featured in eight games for the Dynamo in 2013 and has recorded two assists.
