Standings Watch: What the Dynamo need on the final weekend

We all know what happened this weekend. The Dynamo lost, and pretty much everyone else won. We won't rehash that. You're here for "how do the Dynamo get into the playoffs," and that's just what you'll get. First, the games that matter this weekend (in chronological order; all times CT):

  • Saturday, Oct. 26, 2 p.m.: Philadelphia Union vs. Sporting Kansas City (NBC Sports Network)
  • Saturday, Oct. 26, 3 p.m.: Toronto FC vs. Montreal Impact (MLS Live)
  • Sunday, Oct. 27, 12:30 p.m.: D.C. United vs. Houston Dynamo (NBC)
  • Sunday, Oct. 27, 3 p.m.: Columbus Crew vs. New England Revolution (MLS Live)
  • Sunday, Oct. 27, 4 p.m.: New York Red Bulls vs. Chicago Fire (UniMas)

The Dynamo can still finish anywhere from third- to seventh-place. We'll focus on what gets them into the playoffs (fifth-place or higher).

If the Dynamo win vs. D.C. United

AND one of Montreal, New England or Chicago ties or loses, the Dynamo will finish in fifth place

If the Dynamo win vs. D.C. United

AND two of Montreal, New England or Chicago ties or loses, the Dynamo will finish in fourth place

If the Dynamo win vs. D.C. United

AND all three of Montreal, New England or Chicago ties or loses, the Dynamo will finish in third place

If the Dynamo tie vs. D.C. United

AND New England loses AND Philadelphia ties or loses the Dynamo will finish in fifth place.

(Any result that has the Dynamo tied with other teams at 49 points will not favor the Dynamo in tiebreaker scenarios)

Tiebreakers:

  1. Wins
  2. Goals for
  3. Goal differential
  4. Fewest disciplinary points
  5. Road goals
  6. Road goal differential
  7. Home goals
  8. Home goal differential
  9. Coing toss (two teams) or drawing of lots (three or more teams

Clear as mud? If you have questions on any of these scenarios, leave them in the comments below and we'll try to answer them as best we can. The easiest way in is for the Dynamo to take care of business in D.C. and for at least one of the teams above Houston (Montreal, New England, Chicago) to not win.
