Houston Dash defender Whitney Engen has been called into U.S. women’s national team training camp by head coach Tom Sermanni, it was announced today.
The camp, which will take place at the National Training Center in Carson, Calif., will run from Jan. 8-15. This is the final camp before the team’s opening match of 2014, on Jan. 31 against Canada at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas (8 p.m. CT; FOX Sports 1).
Engen, 26, has earned 10 caps for the U.S. women’s national team and has scored one goal. Engen currently plays for Tyresö FF in Damallsvenskan but was allocated to the Dash earlier today for the 2014 NWSL season.
Sermanni called up a roster of 28 players for the camp. Engen was one of 25 players named today who attended the national team’s previous training camp in December. The Torrance, Calif., native appeared in eight international matches in 2013 for the United States.
