Houston Dash acquire forward Melissa Henderson from FC Kansas City

The Houston Dash have acquired forward Melissa Henderson from FC Kansas City in exchange for a third round pick in the 2015 NWSL College Draft, the club announced today.

Henderson, 24, has played in five games (three starts) for FC Kansas City this season. She played in 17 games (13 starts) for FCKC in 2013, scoring a goal in their semifinal loss to Portland Thorns FC.

The Garland, Texas, native attended the University of Notre Dame where she played under current Dash head coach Randy Waldrum and won an NCAA national championship in 2010. Henderson finished her collegiate career with 70 goals, tied for fourth-best in school history. Henderson earned time in the U.S. youth national team setup, earning call-ups for the the U-16, U-17, U-20, and U-23 teams, and trained with the U.S. women’s national team ahead of Olympic qualification in 2011.

To make roster space for Henderson, the Dash have also waived midfielder Lindsay Elston. Elston appeared in five games, starting one, for Houston this year.
