Houston Dynamo defender Anthony Arena was named Pittsburgh Riverhounds Defender of the Year in a pregame ceremony on Saturday before the club lost its season finale, 2-1, to Arizona United.

Arena, 24, appeared in 16 games with Pittsburgh this season and helped lead the club on a late season run that nearly ended with a place in the USL PRO playoffs. After starting the season 1-9-5, the club won eight of its final 13 games, including a 8-3 stretch before dropping the final two games of the season.

Dynamo goalkeeper Michael Lisch appeared in 17 games, the most among Pittsburgh goalkeepers, and also led the club with a 1.47 goals against average.

Houston midfielder Jason Johnson made 12 appearances and tallied one goal and one assist.

The Riverhounds needed a win against Arizona United, along with a loss for Harrisburg City, but the Islanders won its finale 4-2 to ensure its place in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh is the USL PRO affiliate of the Houston Dynamo after the clubs formed an affiliate partnership for the 2014 season last November.
