Whitney Engen scores in USWNT rout of Mexico

Saturday night's international friendly between the United States and Mexico was a bit of a Dash affair, as Meghan Klingenberg and Whitney Engen represented the Stars and Stripes against Dash teammates Arianna Romero and Teresa Noyola of Mexico at Rio Tinto Stadium. Klingenberg and Romero played the full 90 minutes on opposite sides of the ball, while Engen came on as a halftime sub for the U.S. Noyola did not feature for Mexico.

It was a one-sided affair for the Americans, finishing 8-0, but goal No. 6 of the night came off the head of Engen for her second international goal (3:06 in the video above). Off a Megan Rapinoe corner in the 58th minute, Christen Press rose above the defense to head the ball back across the face off goal. Engen out-jumped two defenders at the post to nod home the shot.

The USA and Mexico meet again on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, New York (6 p.m. CT, ESPN2 and Watch ESPN).
