Houston Dash midfielder Carli Lloyd, defender Meghan Klingenberg called up by U.S. Women’s National Team

Houston Dash midfielder Carli Lloyd and defender Meghan Klingenberg have been called up by the United States Women’s National Team for the International Tournament of Brasilia, head coach Jill Ellis announced today.

The four-team competition will be held from Dec. 10-21 at the National Stadium Mane Garrincha. The USWNT opens the tournament against China on Dec. 10 (3:20 p.m. CT), faces Brazil on Dec. 14 (2:45 p.m.), then finishes round-robin play on Dec. 17 against Argentina (3:20 p.m.). The top two teams after the group stage square off on Dec. 21 to determine the champion.

Lloyd, 32, has earned 180 caps for the United States, scoring 56 international goals. The attacking midfielder was recently named a nominee for 2014 U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year, and earned the Golden Ball award at the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship as the tournament’s best player.

Klingenberg, 25, has made 21 appearances for the national team. The Pittsburgh native started all five matches for the U.S. during their gold medal run at the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship in October, scoring her first international goal in spectacular fashion against Haiti on Oct. 20.

The tournament marks the end of the calendar year for the U.S. as they prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup next summer.
