The Houston Dash announced today details of an open tryout for aspiring soccer players. The tryout will begin on Saturday, February 21 at Houston Sports Park and is open to female soccer players born in 1997 and earlier.

The tryout is comprised of a fitness test, small-sided games and other assorted drills. Select players from the initial tryout on Feb. 21 will be invited back the following day for a scrimmage. Dash head coach Randy Waldrum and managing director Brian Ching will evaluate all participants.

Players identified during the tryout process have a unique opportunity to make an impact with the Dash in 2015, as the club expects several players to be absent during a portion of the season for the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The Dash will have a pool of players that have the opportunity to train with the team and play in reserve matches while being available for amateur call-ups to the first team while national team players are away.

“We are currently expecting to miss around eight players for significant portions of the year for the World Cup,” Dash managing director Brian Ching said. “These tryouts and our preseason will be spent looking for quality players that will be able to fill those spots while our international players are gone, giving them a realistic chance to contribute to the Dash in NWSL matches."

Registration for Dash tryouts is $75 and includes a tryout T-shirt and a ticket voucher to the 2015 Dash season opener against the Washington Spirit on April 10 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Walk-up registration on the day of tryouts is $100. Partial proceeds from registration fees will go towards Dynamo Charities. To register online, click here.
