Houston Dynamo midfielder Luis Garrido suffered a serious knee injury in Tuesday’s CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match against Mexico. In the 38th minute, Garrido lunged for a ball with his right leg extended as Mexican midfielder Javier Aquino fell across his knee.

Honduras national team doctor Oscar Benitez said Garrido suffered a dislocation of his right knee and damaged four ligaments, according to Honduran newspaper Diez. Benitez also credited the Mexican national team’s medical staff for quick assistance after the injury, as the 2014 World Cup veteran was taken off the field via stretcher.

“We feel terrible for Luis after he suffered the injury,” Dynamo general manager Matt Jordan said. “We have been in contact with Luis and his agent since the injury and have offered support through our medical staff and doctors at Houston Methodist. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the injury, Luis cannot travel at this time and will remain in Honduras to continue evaluations. Luis will remain in our thoughts and prayers.”

Garrido sent the following tweet early Wednesday morning (translated from Spanish below):

“Hello, good morning. I want to thank everyone for your support and blessings and we will trust in God that everything will turn out.”
