Houston Dash hold three first-round selections in tomorrow’s 2016 NWSL College Draft

The Houston Dash enter tomorrow’s 2016 NWSL College Draft with three first-round selections, the fifth, sixth and eighth overall selections. The draft will begin at 9 a.m. CT from the Baltimore Convention Center and will be streamed live at www.NWSLsoccer.com.

Last year, the Dash selected University of Virginia midfielder Morgan Brian with the No. 1 overall selection. The two-time MAC Hermann Trophy winner helped the U.S. Women’s National Team win the 2015 FIFA World Cup, making six appearances, including starts in the final four matches and an assist in the Final. Brian, 22, appeared in 24 matches for the USWNT in 2015, fourth most on the team. In her rookie season with the Dash, the St. Simons Island, Georgia native made 10 appearances and tallied three assists.

The Dash also selected Carleigh Williams in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. Houston picked forward Kealia Ohai with its first-ever NWSL College Draft selection, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014.

The Dash acquired two of the three first-round selections in Friday’s draft through a pair of trades. The No. 5 pick and Amber Brooks were acquired from the Seattle Reign in exchange for Meghan Klingenberg on Oct. 21. The No. 8 selection was acquired on Wednesday from FC Kansas City in exchange for Tiffany McCarty and Jessica McDonald.
