The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, the Houston Dynamo’s hybrid affiliate in the United Soccer League, announced their 2016 schedule on Tuesday. The Toros begin their inaugural season on March 26 at Tulsa and will play four games on the road before the home opener April 30 versus LA Galaxy II.
The 2016 season schedule features 30 games – 15 at home and 15 on the road. Home games will be played at the new, state-of-the-art RGV FC Toros Stadium in Edinburg, Texas. A complete schedule can be found below.
"We are excited to announce RGV FC’s inaugural schedule in the Rio Grande Valley. There has been a high level of enthusiasm from soccer fans across the RGV and the border region,” RGV FC president Bert Garcia said in a team release. “Our staff has been hard at work to put a quality team on the pitch and develop strong relationships within the community. We look forward to hosting our first match in our new stadium at the end of April.”
The Dynamo and RGV FC formed a hybrid affiliation last July. As part of the partnership, the Dynamo control all technical aspects of the club, including the selection and formation of the coaching staff as well as the construction of the roster. RGV FC, which operates the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, will manage business operations for the club, including the current construction of a 9,400-seat state-of-the-art soccer stadium in Edinburg, Texas, 330 miles southwest of Houston, across the Mexican border from Reynosa.
Former Colombia national team defender Wilmer Cabrera is head coach of the Toros. To date, Dynamo Academy products Christian Lucatero and Juan “Charly” Flores have been announced as members of the inaugural RGV FC roster. The Dynamo will continue to construct the inaugural RGV FC roster ahead of the club’s first preseason in late February.
