Now only five days to Opening Day (Dynamo vs. New England Revolution at BBVA Compass Stadium; TICKETS), our Dynamo jersey history countdown continues with No. 5. The cinco shirt was worn by Ryan Cochrane, Kyle Brown, Danny Cruz, Warren Creavalle and is currently donned by Raul Rodriguez.

Cochrane started both MLS Cup Finals as the club won consecutive championships in 2006 and 2007. The Oregon native was a key member of both of those teams, starting 24 games in 2006 and three more in the playoffs. The next year, the center back started 25 games and all four playoff matches. Cochrane was selected by San Jose in the 2008 Expansion Draft but returned to the Dynamo from 2009-10.

Cruz followed Cochrane in the No. 5 jersey from 2009-11. The wide midfielder appeared in 51 regular-season games over three seasons and added four starts in the 2011 playoffs, including a start in the MLS Cup Final.

Creavalle wore No. 5 from 2012-2014 and appeared in 54 games across multiple positions, including central midfield and right back. His best run came in 2013, when he started the final 10 games of the season and all five playoff games as the Dynamo reached the Eastern Conference Championship.

Rodriguez enters his second season wearing No. 5 in 2016 after starting 27 games and adding two goals left season.

Best Dynamo moment in the No. 5 jersey: In 2007, Cochrane started 25 games as the Dynamo allowed just 23 goals in 30 games to set a then-MLS record for fewest goals allowed in a season. Head coach Dominic Kinnear used the same five defensive players in his starting lineup for both MLS Cup Final victories. The group included goalkeeper Pat Onstad and a back four of Wade Barrett, Eddie Robinson, Craig Waibel and Cochrane. That consistency was a key part of the consecutive MLS Cup wins.

Honorable mention: Creavalle starts both legs as the Dynamo upset the New York Red Bulls in the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals. The Red Bulls won the Supporters’ Shield just 10 days before the Dynamo’s extra time victory in leg two, the club’s first-ever win in New York.
