Dash face Washington Spirit in top four matchup

The Houston Dash face off against the undefeated Washington Spirit at 6 p.m. CDT on Saturday, May 14 at the Maryland SoccerPlex. The Spirit sit atop of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) table with 10 points, while the Dash have seven points on the season.   

Washington drew with Portland Thorns FC last Saturday after winning the first three matches to open the season. The Spirit are led by United States Women’s National Team player Crystal Dunn and Canadian National Team player Diana Matheson. Dunn is tied with Dash forward Rachel Daly for the second most assists in the league this season with three. Matheson is tied with Chicago Red Stars forward Christine Press for the most goals in the league with three.


Additional players to watch include Ali Krieger, who scored the NWSL Goal of the Week in Week 2, and Spirit goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe, who has registered three clean sheets this season. Labbe is tied for first place with Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher for the most clean sheets in the league.


Houston opened the 2015 NWSL season with a 2-0 victory over Washington but dropped the next two games between the two clubs. The Spirit finished the 2015 season six points clear of the Dash for the final playoff spot. Washington leads the all-time series with a record of 4-1-1.


The Spirit visit BBVA Compass Stadium in two weeks for their last meeting of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27 and fans that attend the match can enjoy Alvin and the Chipmunks on the field after the game courtesy of Discovery Green.
