The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros announced today the club has signed Eric Verso, who joins the Toros roster ahead of tonight’s game against Oklahoma City Energy FC.

Verso finished tied for second in the NCAA with 13 assists and helped Stanford win the 2015 NCAA national championship last December, tallying a goal and assist in a 4-0 victory over Clemson University in the championship game. The versatile attacker started all 23 matches for the Cardinal and earned College Cup all-tournament team honors as well as NSCAA all Far-West region third-team recognition.

“We are very pleased to add Eric to our group,” Dynamo assistant general manager Nick Kowba said. “He’s a versatile player with good vision and ideas going forward who possesses a high soccer IQ. His addition will give Wilmer Cabrera and the coaching staff more options and possibilities during a busy stretch in the schedule.”

A Los Angeles native, Verso played with CZ Elite and the LA Galaxy Academy as a youth player before Stanford. He sustained a minor stress fracture in his foot, limiting his participation in preseason camp after he was selected in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Montreal Impact. Verso has trained with RGV FC since Monday after an initial visit to the club in April during his injury rehabilitation.
