The Houston Dynamo return to MLS action this Friday against Sporting Kansas City as part of Viernes de Futbol on UniMas (7 p.m. CT).
Kansas City had last weekend off after two straight road defeats—first a 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, then a 2-0 loss against the Philadelphia Union. They currently occupy the fifth spot in the Western Conference with an 11-12-5 record (38 points), and are 9-4-1 at Children's Mercy Park. The Dynamo and SKC have met twice this year, both in Houston and both Dynamo wins. The Dynamo won 2-0 back in May, and then grabbed a 3-1 win in June in the U.S. Open Cup. In MLS play, Houston is unbeaten in its last five matchups against Kansas City (3-0-2).
Sporting's attack, which is averaging just over a goal per game, is led once again by forward Dom Dwyer and midfielder Benny Feilhaber. Dwyer has scored exactly two goals every month for 12 so far on the year, his third consecutive double-digit scoring season. Feilhaber leads the team with seven assists but has also scored six of his own. Following Friday's match, SKC turns around for another CCL matchup against Vancouver on Tuesday, so there could be lineup and substitution adjustments made to keep their team fresh.
