Houston Dash announce preseason schedule

The Houston Dash announced their preseason schedule today as they prepare for the upcoming 2017 NWSL regular season. The Dash hit the field for the first time on Monday, March 13 and will play two scrimmages in Texas in addition to traveling to the Pacific Northwest for a preseason tournament at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.

“I’m really happy that Portland has offered us the opportunity to compete in their preseason tournament.  Playing against NWSL competition this early in the year is fantastic,” head coach Randy Waldrum said. “We will also scrimmage Baylor and Texas A&M, and these are two programs that prepare us for totally different styles.  All in all, I’m very pleased with the preseason schedule and look forward to the beginning of preseason on March 13.”

The first scrimmage of the year is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at Prestonwood Christian Academy against Baylor University. For tickets and additional information, visit http://www.fcdwomen.net/soccer-showcase

Houston will face the Portland Thorns, Chicago Red Stars and the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team in the Thorns Spring Invitational presented by Tillamook, a round-robin tournament at Providence Park from March 26 to April 1. This is the second year that Houston will travel to the Pacific Northwest for a preseason tournament. Last year, Houston defeated the Thorns and Oregon State University, and fell to Seattle Reign FC at the inaugural tournament. Tickets for each match day begin at $8 and will go on sale at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at www.Thornsfc.com. Full tournament ticket packages, starting at $15 also will available for purchase.

The final scrimmage of the year will take place in College Station as the Dash scrimmage Texas A&M at 8 p.m. on April 6 at Ellis Field.

This will be the fourth season in the NWSL for the club, which features the back-to-back FIFA Women’s Player of the Year Carli Lloyd, who enters her third year with the club. Houston also features seven players that competed in the Olympic Games in Rio last summer, including Janine Beckie and Nichelle Prince who won the bronze medal with the Canadian National Team.
