The Houston Dynamo finished their group stage participation in the Desert Diamond Cup with a draw against New York Red Bulls, 2-2.
The Dynamo finished group play with a 2-0-1 mark in the tournament and will face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. That match will be streamed live at HoustonDynamo.com/live.
The Orange opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when midfielder Boniek GarcÃa played a first touch ball to forward Andrew Wenger who dribbled inside the box. Wenger found forward Mauro Manotas by himself inside the six-yard box and the Colombian placed the ball in the back of the net. It was Manotas’ fourth goal in six matches this preseason.
Forward Vicente Sánchez suffered a foul in the 41st minute and the resulting free kick found defender Jalil Anibaba at the far post to double Houston’s lead. The defender stretched his leg to drive the ball past Red Bulls goalkeeper Evan Louro for his first goal of the preseason.
The Red Bulls responded in the second half with two unanswered goals. In the 65th minute, Houston defender Agus attempted a back pass to goalkeeper Tyler Deric, but Red Bulls’ forward Omir Fernandez intercepted the ball and beat a defender to put the Red Bulls on the scoreboard.
In the 72nd minute, Fernandez's shot outside the six-yard box bounced off the post and forward Lucas Terci pounced on the loose ball for the equalizer.
The Dynamo return to training on Thursday and Friday before facing Colorado on Saturday.
