The Houston Dynamo Academy continued their good form at the Generation adidas Cup in Frisco, Texas on Thursday with a pair of 3-1 wins.
The Academy U-16s began the playoff phase of the GA Cup against Mexican side Monterrey this morning. The Dynamo grabbed the opening goal off a turnover in Monterrey's defensive third. Rene Tello found Wilmer Cabrera, Jr. at the top of the box, and the son of the Dynamo first team head coach curled a shot into the bottom corner.
Rayados were able to find an equalizer, but headers from Armaan Islam and Cabrera put the game away for Houston. They will face Chivas de Guadalajara, who defeated the Seattle Sounders 4-1, for fifth place in the tournament.
The Dynamo U-12s began their portion of the tournament with a 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls, but fell 5-0 to Spanish club Malaga in the second game of the day. They will face the New England Revolution (10:40 a.m.) and Seattle Sounders (12:40 p.m.) tomorrow to close group play.
