Amber Brooks | Postgame vs. Chicago Red Stars

(on the importance of getting a win in their first game of the season) “It's really important, especially considering that our next three games are on the road. We wanted to make a statement, that it's going to be really, really tough to beat us at home. And at home is where we need to pick up the most points, so I'm really happy that we got a result and got the shutout."

(on what went in to her assist FW Kealia Ohai’s opening goal) "Well, Chicago was actually on the attack, and luckily we were able to clear it. Then when I got the ball, I had some open space and I picked my head up and I had tried a similar pass to (FW) Rachel (Daly) before, that she almost got on the end of. I saw Kea and I'd take Kea against anyone in this league any day, so I played it over to her and she did what she does best."

(on how the heat factored into the importance of the first goal) "It was really important. You could see both of us were struggling a little bit in that heat, especially considering it's the first game, so (I’m) really happy that we got on top of them early and really happy that we didn't give anything up. I think that's what's important. And then we got the second goal when we needed it."

(on the performances of DF Janine van Wyk and DF Bruna Benites today) "They were great. I think Janine, you could see, she's great at reading plays and intercepting the passes. She knows that she's not going to necessarily win a foot race, so she's got to do a good job of reading that initial pass and I think you saw her intercept quite a few that otherwise would've been dangerous. And Bruna likewise. You know, she's good in the air, she's good with her feet. She can set play at the back, so I was really impressed with both of them."
