After picking up another road draw – a contentious 2-2 affair with the LA Galaxy last Saturday – the Houston Dynamo moved up one spot in the MLSsoccer.com Power Rankings to No. 8.

The Dynamo had held steady in No. 9 place for a couple of weeks before moving up this week. They were overtaken by Atlanta United (from 10 to 6) but leapfrogged Orlando City (from 7 to 9). Here's what the ranking crew had to say about the Dynamo:

If you let them run, they will score. But that backline has a habit of coming apart when on the road, and we're still trying to figure out why Tyler Deric went on a walkabout on the first LA goal.

Friday night is a chance to impress and move up the standings against in-state rivals FC Dallas (8 p.m. | TICKETS). The Dynamo and FC Dallas are tied with Portland for second place in the Western Conference with 24 points (three behind Sporting Kansas City), but Dallas has played a game less and their 1.6 points per game is tops in the conference. Plus, they're third in the power rankings.
