THE RESULT:

  • Kept the Dynamo undefeated at BBVA Compass Stadium this season, improving their record at home to 8-0-3 on the year.
  • Improved Houston’s record overall to 9-7-6 on the year.
  • Extended the Dynamo’s unbeaten streak to four consecutive games dating back to July 5. The last time the Dynamo went four games without a loss was from August 29 – September 28, 2014, a span of five games.
  • Improved Houston’s record against Portland to 4-5-3 all-time and 3-0-3 at home.

  • The Dynamo conceded the first goal of the game when Portland MF Diego Valeri scored in the 13th minute. It was the ninth time this season that the Dynamo conceded the game’s opening goal, and the team is 1-7-1 in those games.
  • Houston conceded the game’s opening goal for just the second time this season. The Dynamo are now 1-0-1 at home when allowing the first goal of the game.
  • The Dynamo trailed at halftime for the fourth time this season, going into the break down a goal at 1-2. Houston is now 0-3-1 this season when trailing at halftime.
  • The Dynamo completed 81.3 percent of their passes in the game. It was the third game this season in which Houston completed better than 80 percent of its pass attempts. The Dynamo also did so on June 23 vs. FC Dallas and on July 1 at Colorado.

PLAYER NOTES:

  • MF Juan David Cabezas scored his first goal in Major League Soccer and his first with the Dynamo when he headed in a cross in the 81st minute to tie the game.
  • Cabezas made his 16th consecutive start and his 17th overall this season.
  • FW Mauro Manotas set a new career high with his seventh goal of the season when he connected on a first-touch volley in the 37th minute. Manotas scored six goals in 2016.
  • Four of Manotas’ 13 career goals have come against Portland, and all four have come in the last two matchups at BBVA Compass Stadium.
  • Manotas made his 27th start for the Dynamo in MLS regular-season play tonight and his 17th of the season.
  • MF Memo Rodriguez registered his first career assist when he played in a cross that MF Juan David Cabezas headed into the net in the 81st minute.
  • Rodriguez has now contributed to three goals in his last four games, with two goals and assist in that span.
  • Rodriguez made his seventh appearance of the season and his third in a row tonight when he came on for MF Ricardo Clark in the 59th minute.

  • Machado played the full 90 minutes for the 22nd consecutive game, making him one of four remaining field players in MLS to have played every minute of the season for his team this year.
