One of the fiercest rivalries in soccer picks back up this month when the United States and Canadian Women’s National Teams face off for a pair of friendlies. The home-and-away series starts off in the historic BC Place in Vancouver on tonight at 9 p.m. CST and will air on ESPN 2. The second leg of the series will be played on Sunday, November 12 at 8 p.m. CST at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Califor. and will air on FS1.

Forward Carli Lloyd and goalkeeper Jane Campbell join the USWNT ahead of the matches, while forwards Janine Beckie and Nichelle Prince look forward to representing the CanWNT. For both the Americans and the Canadians, there is no honor quite like being able to represent one’s country. However, being able to catch up with Dash teammates is a nice bonus. Campbell comments, “Offseason for the NWSL – I’m starting to realize is long and I miss my team a lot. It’s going to be a special, and very fun experience to play against [Beckie and Prince] on this platform.”

No stranger to the competition, Lloyd knows that despite the Red, White and Blue having the better record, “the Canadian team has improved over the recent years…[and] is playing with more confidence now and the rivalry is as fierce as ever.”

The CanWNT may contribute part of its recent upswing to the youthfulness of its roster, including the Dash’s own Janine Beckie (23) and Nichelle Prince (22). For Prince, Houston holds a special place in her heart for both club and country, reflecting, “My first experience playing the U.S. was back in 2016 for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifiers. It was the final game of the tournament and it was actually played in Houston at BBVA Compass Stadium, which is pretty cool.” While Prince also looks forward to meeting up with Lloyd and Campbell, she notes “When I put on my Canadian jersey for these matches my only focus is to do whatever I can for my team and country.”
